From San Jose I boarded a train to sketchy San Bernardino, CA. The bus that I arrived in contained just me and three prison convicts and the bus driver was so fearful for me that he took me under his wing, sheltering me in his bus until Beka came and got me.
It was great to see Beka. One of the things that I love about her is that things happen when we are together--she has that energy. A lot of times bad things happen (for example: immediately after picking me up and getting onto the freeway we got a flat tire. The rest of the week was spent combatting a flooded apartment and various other broken items.) But even crappy things are usually enjoyable...
It felt just like old times even though things have changed. Beka has her own apartment, two cats, and two covetable jobs. One job is babysitting for two star children and the other is working for the famed Kim Fowley, doing secretarial work along with acting in, producing and learning to film his next movies. Since Beka has the lead female role in the current improv comedy movie Kim is making right now, and Kim did not want to lose any time shooting, they made a role for me in the movie! So, I played the role of Beka's best girl gangster puppet friend. Free cheesy prom dresses, meals, inside info on show business, money, entertainment--what more could I ask for? Maybe, just maybe, Kim will fly me down to act in future movies with Beka. That would be great because the only other plan Beka and I have right now for living together is getting married so she can move to Canada... and we don't swing that way.
A visit to Escondido to see the Dordt College Concert Choir perform showed that in some ways we are all grown up and distanced from our roots. But, in other ways, as was proven when we got up on stage and joined in with the choir in singing the Alma Mater, we will always have Dordt!
Redlands was nice, Joshua Tree National Park was beautiful, and I love Beka.
